A combined team of the police and IRB today rescued one Government employee and a bus owner abducted by UGs at Khoripok hill under Yairipok police station this morning.
Police sources said a combined team of the police and IRB led by the DIG Range-1 LM Khaute rescued the employee and the bus owner, when the team was tracing whereabouts of Education (S) Director, A Samungou.
The employee is identified as Md Tayeb Ali while the bus owner is identified as Md Habibur Rahman, both of Yairipok Heitroipokpi Malom.
They were reportedly kidnapped by UGs on the night of November 2 on the demand of Rs 50,000 each.
Ali is a peon, police said.
Police said that the UGs fled after a brief exchange of fire with the police team, leaving behind their captives, whose hands were found tied.
A search operation was launched at the area.
Whereabouts of the abducted Director are yet to be known, police said.
Meanwhile, the All Manipur Education Department Employees' Association appealed for release of Director Samungou on humanitarian ground.
The sit-in-protest against the abduction has completed its third day.
Staffs and teachers under the Zonal Education Officers, Wangoi also staged a sit-in-protest against the abduction and appealed to all concerned for immediate release of the abducted officer.
The MSF also appealed for release of the Director urging the group behind the abduction to give the official a chance to make self corrections.
In a release the MSF held officials of the Education Department for the sorry state of education in Manipur today.
Hence there should not be any complaint against taking action against them, it said.
The MSF, however, appealed to the abductors not to be given him stringent punishment.
Ningombam Nisha Band Meira Paibi Lup and All Manipur Elementary School Teachers Association, Zone-IV, Bishnupur also appealed for his safe and early release, according to a press release.
